Henry (Henrick) Claussen born in Feb. 1827 in Hannover, Lower Saxony (Neidersachsen), Germany. Surname also spelled Classen, Classon, Clasen, Clausson, and Claussan.

Emigrated in 1855 to Castle Garden, New York, and Naturalized in 1856 in New York.

Religion: Lutheran

Moved to Illinois and then on to Minnesota.
Husband of Maria “Mary” (Koble) Claussen.

Married in 1859 in Illinois.

Children of Henry and Mary Classen: August Luehrs (Classen) (step son adopted by Henry), Frederick “Fred” H., Minnie (Mina), Caroline (Carrie), Emma Else (Palen), and Louisa Classen (Olsen).


Henry died in 1901, according to Mary’s Obituary, because she was listed as a Widower in her death record for 1903, and Henry was living in 1900 Census.
